Overview

Provides professional nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to care for patients within an assigned unit

The Imaging services nurse is responsible for the assessment of and the practicing of nursing services appropriate for patients in the Imaging Services Department. All NARMC Nursing policies and procedures shall be adhered to with additional approved specific Imaging Services philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures integrated.  Imaging Nurses have specific areas of supervisory authority and responsibility, (patient care, infection control and nursing procedures); help coordinate and conduct educational programs for students and staff and participate in and conduct QA/PI studies.   

Responsibilities

  • Interacts and communicates with physicians, support staff and other healthcare professionals to facilitate work flow operations.
  • Assesses the health status of patients in radiology unit in a comprehensive manner.
  • Performs and/or assures completion and assessments on patients.
  • Documents all data obtained from patient assessment.
  • Initiates appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Communicates relevant patient data to physicians and patient’s primary nurse.
  • Prepares patients for tests as evidenced by verbal feedback from patients understanding successful completion of tests.
  • Implements care in a consistent and continuous manner to ensure the effective delivery of quality care.
  • Administers and documents medications given according to hospital policy and procedure as evidenced by lack of repeated patterns of error.
  • Documents patient teaching on appropriate records.
  • Provides appropriate patient care chart documentation.
  • Documents nursing interventions and patient’s response on the patient’s record in accordance to established standards.
  • Recognizes change in patient’s physical and mental status and informs physician and/or the patient’s primary nurse as evidenced by verbal feedback and/or chart documentation.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement Program by evaluating outcomes of patient care and making recommendations for Improvement for radiology nursing.
  • Evaluates patient’s needs for continuity of care and initiates requests for referrals to other healthcare services through communication of need to primary nurse and or physician.
  • Maintains and submits monthly Performance Improvement grids.
  • Works with other nursing personnel and assists team members with patient care as needed in accordance with their scope of practice and hospital regulations.
  • Demonstrates ability to use all established channels of communication to transmit information, address concerns, and solve problems as evidenced by following chain of command.
  • Assists in orientation of new employees and students as requested.
  • Assists in development of PI monitoring criteria.
  • Evaluates patient outcomes as they relate to healthcare delivery as evidenced by monthly Performance Improvement reports.

  • Correctly completes procedure information in MEDITECH on all pts; including NP Charges

  • Initializes work.

  • Have knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of the other departments.

  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatrics, geriatric and general population.

  • Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.

  • Understands method and is capable of performing venipuncture.

  • Verifies informed consent for, and assists a licensed practitioner with interventional procedures.

  • Complies with NARMC HIPPA Privacy and Security policies.

  • Understands responsibility to report issues with privacy, fraud and abuse, compliance and ethical conduct.

  • Reports equipment malfunctions immediately.

  • Correctly uses sterile technique procedures.

  • Assists in performing first aid for falls, bleeds, fainting, nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions, tissue tears and abrasions as necessary.

  • Correctly utilizes Biomedical disposal techniques and able to state what material are appropriate for biohazard disposal.

  • Secures and returns supplies, maintains room stock.

  • Demonstrates effective time management by completing commitments within standard time frames and schedules.

  • Makes suggestions of ways to improve.

  • Effectively communicates and works with supervisors.

  • Identifies each patient and order beforehand

  • Shares knowledge with others.

  • Works together as a whole to get the job done.

  • NON-INVASIVE BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR COMPETENCY:
  • Demonstrate how to turn non-invasive blood pressure monitor machine on and change automatic settings.

  • Demonstrate proper positioning of cuff on patient’s arm or leg to obtain blood pressure

  • Demonstrate how to obtain previous pressure readings.

  • Know where to obtain a large cuff if needed for patient.

  • PROCEDURE KNOWLEDGE COMPETENCY:

Qualifications

 

Required

Preferred

Education:

The Imaging Services Nurse is required to be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and have a current state license.

Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Ability to act in a professional capacity and serve as a professional role model and function independently with minimal direct supervision.

Must possess basic nursing skills; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)(or be eligible) and be proficient in IV access skills and ECG interpretation.    

At least three to five years current acute medical - surgical experience, critical care or emergency department experience is preferred.

Registered Nurse in the State of Arkansas
