Overview

Responsible for performing simple specified nursing duties related to patient care, such as bathing, vital signs, non-sterile surgical dressings and patient observation

Assists in preparation of supplies and helps maintain cleanliness and order in the department

Will see patients in their homes, would be cross-trained to work at the Hospice House.

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform only those patient care activities contained in a written plan formulated by the RN.                        
  • Performs bathing techniques as assigned (bed bath, tub, shower).
  • Performs care of patient’s hair, shaving, nail care, foot care, skin care, and perineal care.
  • Performs oral care as assigned.
  • Assists with ostomy care as assigned.
  • Demonstrates proper procedure for application of TED hose.
  • Demonstrates proper procedure for application of Ace bandage.   
  • Follows proper procedure for soaks and compresses as assigned 
  • Demonstrates proper procedure to assist patients with assistive devices.
  • Demonstrates ability to use Hoyer Lift.
  • Assist with G-tube feedings and site care as assigned. 
  • Demonstrates ability to assist with oral suctioning.
  • Performs basic oxygen skills. 
  • Demonstrates ability to assist with unsterile dressing changes.
  • Demonstrates proper procedure for cast care.
  • Demonstrates ability to collect urine/stool specimens. 
  • Demonstrates ability to assist in bowel/bladder training.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform therapeutic exercises as instructed by RN/RPT.
  • Demonstrates proper procedure for assistance with medications ordinarily self-administered.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide household services essential to home care.
  • Documents patient status accurately according to patient care plan & agency policy.
  • Completes missed visit notes daily & turns in weekly.
  • Reports changes in patient status to primary RN as appropriate.
  • Completes all documentation accurately on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrates ability to assist the patient with transfer mobility techniques with assistive devices including w/c, walker/cane, etc.
  • Reviews departmental policy & procedure on an annual basis.
  • Demonstrates awareness of responsibility for own actions & assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
  • Performs job duties as a team member to assure the effectiveness of, and harmony within, the department. 
  • Demonstrates effective communication methods & skills. 
  • Create a positive image of NARMC at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Demonstrates awareness of cost controls and strives to reduce department costs.
  • Prioritizes and utilizes time efficiently. 
  • Demonstrates awareness of responsibility and accountability for own actions and assigned responsibilities.
  • Complies with NARMC HIPAA Privacy and Security policies. 
  • Understands responsibility to report issues with privacy, fraud and abuse, compliance and ethical conduct.

Qualifications

Education:

 

Previous experience as a nurse’s aide in a hospital, skilled nursing facility or an agency providing Home Health and/ or Hospice or CNA or completed 40 hours training program, meeting state & federal regulations.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Ability to read, write and carry out directions, and maturity and

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

Ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
