Overview

A journeyman electrician performs skilled electrical work in installing, altering, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment and systems, as well as works in other skilled fields (plumbing, HVAC, fire alarm, nurse call, video, and access control) as required.

Responsibilities

A journeyman electrician should have the ability to observe, investigate, determine what the issues are, enlist help (when needed), source and price repair supplies, schedule repairs, and make repairs in accordance with all applicable regulations and record information on all needed electrical related repairs. As an employee he or she must be willing to follow and embrace NARMC’s Mission and Vision statement, as well as NARMC’s values of Safety, Quality, Integrity, and Community.

 

  • Performs equipment installations and repairs by studying blueprints and work sketches to determine material requirements along with cost of supplies and labor. 
  • Troubleshoots, installs, repairs, inspects, and records facility equipment including but not limited to facility power systems, distribution panels, transformers, lighting fixtures, motors, control panels and all electrical cabling.
  • All repairs and maintenance of devices, machinery and mechanical equipment will be in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s specifications and required state and federal guidelines.
  • Observes all safety guidelines required by NARMC while performing any and all duties.
  • Uses various hand tools including but not limited to drill, drill press, hand grinder, impact, core drill, multi- meter, saws-all, port-a-band, pipe threading equipment both hand and powered, inspection cameras, infrared cameras and multi-meter.
  • Computers will be used but not limited to researching equipment, parts ordering, project pricing, engineering work orders, e-mails and viewing blueprints.  
  • Other work or duties may be assigned by the Engineering Director or Supervisor.
  • Grounds work could be added.  Snow and ice removal will be done by every member of the Engineering department.
  • Will act as security by following guidelines outlined in NARMC policies and procedures.
  • Employee must be willing to work a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Employee may be required to work other shifts when needed.

In the event of an internal or external disaster, employee may be required to return to duty when needed

Qualifications

Education:

High school graduate or GED required.

Vocational school training desired, with courses in electrical, blueprint reading, mathematics and physics. 

 

Experience:

Four years participation in a state approved apprentice program or equivalent

 

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

Boiler Operator’s License within one year. 

Current Arkansas Industrial and Commercial Journeyman Electricians License. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Ability to read and write is required.

Ability to read blueprints and schematics.

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
