Terminal Cleaning & Disinfection:
- Conducts thorough terminal cleaning of the departments after surgical procedures, ensuring all surfaces, equipment, and high-touch areas are properly disinfected.
- Follows AORN and CDC guidelines for environmental infection control, including using approved disinfectants and techniques.
- Cleans and disinfects surgical lights, anesthesia equipment, walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, and all horizontal and vertical surfaces.
- Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows standard precautions for infection control.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Adheres to hospital infection prevention protocols to reduce the risk of surgical site infections (SSIs).
- Follows hospital and regulatory guidelines for waste disposal, biohazard handling, and chemical usage.
- Ensures proper documentation of cleaning schedules, processes, and any concerns noted during cleaning.
- Participates in environmental rounds, audits, and quality improvement initiatives for surgical area cleanliness.
Equipment & Supply Management:
- Properly operates and maintains hospital-approved cleaning equipment, UV-C disinfection devices when applicable.
- Ensures the correct dilution and application of disinfectants to meet manufacturer and hospital requirements.
- Reports any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Works closely with surgical staff, infection control teams, and environmental services leadership to ensure OR cleaning meets hospital standards.
- Responds promptly to urgent cleaning needs, turnovers, and emergency procedures.
- Communicates effectively with team members regarding any potential hazards or needed process improvements.
