Using ICD-10-CM standards, codes and abstracts medical records for reimbursement purposes

Works under immediate supervision of a qualified medical records specialist

With thorough knowledge of the work involved and subject to spot check, uses initiative and independent judgment and should perform all of the following duties:

• Codes all outpatient charts including Emergency Room, Outpatient Surgery, and Observation by using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 and following established coding guidelines.

Experience:

Training/job experience in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding required

One year of outpatient coding experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
