Overview

The Unit coordinator assists the Nurse Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Unit, ensures high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory standards. This role is a leadership position and provides direction to the department staff, management of patient flow and collaboration with other departments to promote optimal patient outcomes. The Unit Coordinator will ensure compliance with regulatory programs for the department.

Responsibilities

      • Assists in determining staffing needs and advises nursing administration.
      • Maintains legal, institutional and professional standards.
      • Assists in the orientation of new nursing personnel and keeps them informed of the philosophies policies and procedures to be followed in caring for patients and their families.
      • Assists in providing in-services and/or continuing education for the nursing staff.
      • Participates in peer review activities (setting patient care standards and nursing committee activities).
      • Identifies areas of needed improvement and participates in the Performance Improvement process.
      • Maintains a professional appearance at all times in dress and
      • Serves as a role model and assists in establishing a positive and motivating work environment in order to enhance attitudes and disposition to think critically.
      • Responsible for auditing and approving time cards, as assigned.
      • Performs related duties required.

 

Qualifications

Education:

Associates Degree from an accredited nursing school.

 

Experience:

Four years labor and delivery, newborn care and women's health experience.

Previous leadership experience

 

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

 

Current Registered Nurse license in Arkansas 

BLS, ACLS and NRP certification required

Intermediate and Advanced Fetal Monitoring per current recommendations

Instructor Status in NRP and Fetal Monitoring within 2 years of hire after governing guidelines are met

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Improves professional growth and knowledge of job to maintain efficiency and effectiveness of nursing management and clinical effectiveness by belonging to professional organizations, attending approved seminars, subscribing to and reading journals and publications pertinent to nursing management and clinical nursing, risk management, infection control and safety issues.

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
