Overview

Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair services of facility systems such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building systems

Emphasis is on performance of a variety of maintenance tasks rather than a high degree of skill in any particular trade

Responsibilities

 

  • Performs maintenance on patient care wall suction units to include cleaning, lubrication and adjusting, checking for bad components, and replacement within capacity.  Performs functional testing performance verification and calibration of wall suctions.  Repair malfunctions within capability.

  • Performs safety test of designated non-patient related equipment and general equipment to verify compliance with NARMC, AHA and other regulator requirements.  Checking may be limited to electrical safety leakage testing using appropriate test equipment and visual checks to ensure all accessories, cables and power cords are safe for hospital use.  Provides documentation for all testing.

  • Performs other electrical and maintenance jobs as required to ensure appliances used in all areas are safe and usable for their intended purpose.

  • Repairs nurse call systems, pillow speaker controls and bed controls.  Test as applicable isolation monitors, gas alarms, grounding systems and fire alarm systems, etc. Repairs hospital beds.  Performs any other duties as assigned.

  • Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications, using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments.

  • Keeps record showing equipment type, model number, date of installation and extent of servicing.  Work on refrigerator, boiler, plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds, telephones and duties as assigned by the Engineering Director or Supervisor.

  • Observes mechanical devices (pumps, engines, motors, conveyor systems, laboratory equipment) in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.  Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.  Adjusts functional part of devices and control instruments or may install special functional and structural parts.  Lubricates and cleans parts.  Starts devices to test their performance.  Could maintain air conditioner systems, clean heat pumps, change air filters.  By using and maintaining gauges changes isolation filters, cleans cooling coils, removes air handler motors and repairs and cleans them.  Sprays chemicals on coils to clean both cooling and heating coils.  May set up and operate lathe, drill, press, grinder and other metal working tools to make and repair parts.  May initiate purchase order for parts and machines. 

  • ADA/MSDS and other jobs may be assigned as time goes on.  Grounds work could be added.  Snow and ice removal will be done by every employee in the Maintenance Department - no matter what your job title. Will need to be at work when the weather is bad. May need to unload salt for water softness.  May do computer work such as entering information to update records.

 

 

Qualifications

Education:

 

High school diploma or equivalent

 

 

 

Degrees, Licensures and/or Certifications:

 

Should have Boilers Operators License within 1 year of employment.

Advancement available after completion of Journeyman Electricians License, Freon Certification or Hospital Plumber License.

Must keep up with the changes in codes and standards for the Licenses.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

Read and Understand blueprints.  Build material list from blueprints and / or project manuals.
