Provides professional nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to care for patient within an assigned unit

Coordinates care planning with other disciplines

Under the supervision and administration of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse of assigned Unit, the Staff RN is responsible for the nursing care in an assigned nursing unit or a portion of a nursing unit.

The registered nurse-staff nurse working in GI Lab is accountable to the charge nurse in unit or Surgery Manager. Functions as GI procedures nurse and /or recovery nurse.

• Assess patients; assure quality of care and the needs of patients assigned.
• Communicate with patients, physicians, families and fellow workers in a professional manner.
• Demonstrates ability to handle repeated and sudden stress situations.
• Must be versed in electrocardiography, drug therapy and emergency procedures which my be used in unit.
• Must understand post-operative recovery procedures and problems.
• Observe and promote infection control policies.
• Complete patient charges and nursing notes.
• Promote patient safety and welfare at all times.
• Must be able to take call.
