Overview

Preparation of laundry for processing and distributes clean linen to the floors

Preparation of sorting, weighing, and identifying clean or dirty linens; loads and unloads extractors and dryers; may fee or fold linens during ironing

Responsibilities

  • Opens laundry in the morning, picks up soiled linen from each department.
  • Weighs linens which are soiled, recording weights from each department for monthly record.
  • Tends to one or more machines to wash hospital linen, blankets and curtains.
  • Loads and unloads washing machines, controls weights and makes sure machines are operating properly.
  • Insures that quality standards are met.
  • Repairs damaged linens and other clothing items and returns to circulation.
  • Makes special items for surgery and other departments.
  • Keeps records of linens taken out of circulation and makes monthly reports.
  • Responsible for requisitioning new linens and marking and putting them in circulation. Cleans and maintains sewing room and sewing machine.
  • Works in a team to fill dryers with proper load and weight, unloads dryers, moves to folding area, sorts linen and places them in appropriate section, helps feed flat work ironer or receives articles as they roll from folder.
  • Folds, sorts and stacks linens in proper shelves for delivery to floor.
  • At the end of the day checks and cleans equipment and prepares for next days operation.
  • Helps deliver linens to departments as necessary.
  • Performs a variety of related duties.

Qualifications

Education:

 

GED or High School graduate Able to read, write and effectively communicate.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
