Overview

Assists the physical therapist and physical therapist assistant by preparing patients and equipment for physical therapy and treatments

May also assist therapist in support of patient during therapy, the personal care of patients and the cleaning and storing of equipment

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accountability to the Director of Rehabilitation Services and the supervising therapist.
  • Maintains clinical accountability to the therapists
  • Maintains professional telephone etiquette and identifies self and department.
  • Takes message with complete and accurate information.
  • Provides specific treatment only as directed by therapist
  • Monitor patient’s response to treatment
  • Report the response and performance to the therapist
  • Stocks and maintains inventory of supplies and linens.
  • Maintains department cleanliness and safety and reports any problems incurred.
  • Consistently prepares treatment area and gathers supplies needed in advance for patient use
  • Prepares patient for treatment with respect and allows patient to maintain dignity.
  • Operates equipment correctly and safely
  • Transports/Ambulates the patients safely in the outpatient treatment areas as directed by therapists.
  • Ambulates inpatient safely in the inpatient treatment areas as directed by therapists
  • Maintains proper body mechanics during patient care treatment, especially when transferring patients
  • Makes proper use of lifts, slides, and safety belts
  • Measures patients for crutches, canes, walkers, etc. and adjust properly for patient use.
  • Refers questions regarding the patient’s prognosis to the therapist
  • Communicates clearly with patients and Rehab Services Staff
  • Assists in maintenance of all equipment and reports and problems occurred.
  • Assists in maintaining an accurate and complete outpatient schedule
  • Properly instructs patients and/r family with getting in and out of bed and bedside chair
  • Consistently greets customers in a friendly manner
  • Maintains professional telephone etiquette and identifies self and department
  • Takes message with complete and accurate information.
  • Provides specific treatment only as directed by therapist
  • Stocks and maintains inventory of supplies and linens.
  • Maintains department cleanliness and safety and reports any problems incurred.
  • Consistently prepares treatment area for patient use.
  • Prepares patient for treatment with respect and allows patient to maintain dignity.
  • Operates equipment correctly and safely.
  • Assists in maintenance of all equipment and reports any problems occurred.
  • Assists in maintaining an accurate and complete patient schedule.
  • Accurately teaches patients and/or family in use of walker, crutches or cane.
  • Properly instructs patients and/or family in getting out of bed and chair.

Qualifications

Education:

 

High school education or GED required

 

Experience:

 

Prior patient care experience is preferred but not necessary

 

Degrees, Licensure and/or Certifications:

 

BLS Certification

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Attends in-services educational programs

 

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
