Overview

Under the Director of Respiratory Care, will perform all types of basic respiratory care modalities such as oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, metered dose inhalers, chest physical therapy, incentive spirometry, deep breathing and coughing techniques, tracheotomy care and suctioning as competencies allow.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating very closely with RT on shift to ensure safe patient care at all times.
  • Monitor CPAP/BiPAP therapy as competencies allow.
  • Monitor Mechanical Ventilation as competencies allow.
  • Perform diagnostic testing:  ABG’s, ECG’s, and PFT’s.
  • Application, removing and processing Holter monitors.
  • Clean and assemble respiratory equipment.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of disposables for daily care.
  • Provide patient and caregiver education when indicated.
  • Be available for call and overtime as assigned to maintain adequate staffing levels for safe patient care.
  • Use the Meditech system to document, order therapy and input charges.
  • Perform pre and post assessments during therapy and recommend appropriate care/changes as needed.
  • Assist with outpatient procedures, public outreach activities, in-service education, and skilled nursing care and wellness programs when assigned.
  • Be aware of age specific needs.

Qualifications

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

 

Must have a copy of a diploma or offical transcript of the highest level of education

 

Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Arkansas

 

BLS certification required

 

Must obtain ACLS, PALS and NRP within 6 months of employment.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Licensor requires completion of at least 12 CEU’s annually in Respiratory Care.

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
