Nurse Practitioner - Occupational Health/Family Nurse Practitioner

Augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to employees; collect and document data, administer first aid, care and assistance to employees that become ill or are injured at work, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services.


·         Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician.

·         Take employee histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in the employee’s record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.

·         Treatment of employees with work-related injuries as appropriate, including referrals as needed.

·         Provides aggressive case management for worker’s compensation and health insurance program, including scheduling appointments, escorting the injured employee to the Emergency Department, facilitating treatment of injuries and initiating a return to work plan. Actively communicates with physician, as needed.

·         Ensures completion of the required Arkansas Worker’s Compensation Commission forms and maintains related documents.

·         Coordinates and maintains the leave of absence program. Responsible for determining an employee’s eligibility for a leave of absence under the Family & Medical Leave Act. This includes providing timely notification of an employee’s rights and initiating an aggressive return to work plan.

·         Maintains OSHA record keeping requirements related to employee injuries.

·         Performs duties required under NARMC’s Drug and Alcohol Policy including performing urine drug screens using Chain of Custody.

·         Conducts health related, new-hire activities, including a medical review to ensure that the employee can perform the duties required by the job. This also includes TB skin testing and monitoring immunity to communicable diseases according to current recommended guidelines.

·         Provides employee TB skin tests and vaccinations to assure a safe and healthy workplace.

·         Performs health risk assessments for employees and area businesses and collects, assesses and compiles aggregate data as needed to implement wellness goals and activities.

·         Promotes safety awareness, provides education to employees to reduce/minimize injury and exposure risk.

·         Maintains employee health files for an accurate data base of information required by state and federals laws.

·         Performs mask fit testing according to OSHA requirements.






Master’s degree from an accredited nursing school with completion of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program



1 year nursing experience




Previous Employee Health


3-5 years nursing experience in hospital or clinic setting.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

Current RN license with the Arkansas State Board of Nursing or Compact, Multistate License

Current APRN license with the Arkansas State Board of Nursing

Must have a copy of a diploma or official transcript of the highest level of education

BLS required for RNs


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent assessment skills, ability to use the nursing process to assess, plan, and evaluate employee illnesses and work-related injuries, good understanding of infection control practices, excellent communication skills and computer skills, ability to process large amounts of data.

Previous experience related to employee health, population health, infection control, public health, and/or wellness.
