Overview

Using ICD-10-CM standards, codes and abstracts medical records for reimbursement purposes

Supervises Coding Specialists

Responsibilities

Works under immediate supervision of a qualified medical records specialist

 

With thorough knowledge of the work involved and subject to spot check, uses initiative and independent judgment and should perform all of the following duties:

 

  • Codes all outpatient charts including Emergency Room, Outpatient Surgery, and Observation by using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 and following established coding guidelines.

 

  • Enters each patient’s codes in the Meditech screens so it can be dropped for billing.

 

  • Reviews the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care ASC Payment group reassignments for coding errors and for educational purposes.

 

  • Makes copies of Medicaid Emergency Room charts for the Business Office as needed.

 

  • Assist in all functions of the Medical Records department as time and or need allows on a daily basis.

Qualifications

Education:

 

                        

Experience:

 

Training/job experience in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding required

 

One year of outpatient coding experience preferred.

 

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
