Overview

Provides assistance and support to physicians and other medical providers in assessing, planning, and providing patient care


Must have completed advanced education and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions and chronic illnesses.


Requires certification as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Provides primary medical care to clinic patients under direction of a physician as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act.

 

  • Performs physicals exams and preventative health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of a physician.

 

  • Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic test to identify and assess patients’ clinical problems and health care needs.

 

  • Records physical findings and formulates plan of care, up to and including medication management.

 

  • Discusses cases with physician and other health care professionals. Participate with coordination of care.

 

  • Practices within his/her scope of practice as delineated by his/her education, training and protocols.

 

  • Assists the Medical Director in assuring Clinical Competence.

 

  • Is responsible for supervision of the nursing, lab, x-ray personnel employed by the clinic according to the clinic policy.

 

  • Annually reviews and updates clinic written policies, coordinating with Medical Director.

 

  • Participate with education of staff

 

  • Promote policy development to optimize clinical care and efficiency within department.

 

Qualifications

 

Required

Preferred

Education:

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with advanced education as an APN in include certification by a nationally recognized professional organization of a nursing specialty or individuals who have met criteria for advanced practice nursing established by the State Board of Nursing.

Must have mental health certification

 

Experience:

 

 

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

Current State of Arkansas Board of Nursing RN and APRN license

BLS

CPI or equivalent

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to assess and provide appropriate care to patients in need of mental health care under a collaborative agreement with physician.   Ability to manage staff to achieve goals and obtain optimal outcomes. Provide appropriate and complete documentation to ensure high quality of care.   Adhere to all compliance requirements through facility, state and federal agencies.
